Miles of Mercy – Pedalling for a Purpose

In July, one man will embark on an extraordinary journey of endurance and compassion. Shariq will cycle 450 km from Mecca to Medina in just 24 hours, across the desert, under the heat and trials of one of the toughest terrains imaginable. But this is not simply a cycling challenge—it is a mission of mercy.

Every pedal stroke, every kilometre travelled, is dedicated to bringing life-saving water to families in war-torn and underserved regions around the world. This is the heart of the Miles of Mercy campaign: turning physical endurance into hope, and sweat into sustenance.

Why water? Why now?

Across many conflict-affected areas, millions of people are waking up each day without reliable access to safe, clean drinking water. Children traverse dangerous terrain just to fetch a few litres—often contaminated and unsafe. Without clean water, entire communities are vulnerable to disease, malnutrition, displacement and despair.

Through Miles of Mercy your support will directly fund:

  • Emergency Water Packs for families in crisis.

  • Manual Hand Pumps, enabling basic sustainable access to water.

  • Full Village Wells and communal systems to restore dignity, health and water-security for entire communities.

  • Storage and distribution solutions to ensure daily supply in remote areas.

Your donation is more than charity—it is survival, it is dignity, it is change.

Who’s behind the challenge?

This initiative is powered by Al Ianah Humanity Welfare, a UK-based charity committed to serving vulnerable communities worldwide. From supplying food and sponsoring orphans to building wells and pumps, the charity’s mission is simple: turn compassion into action.
The Miles of Mercy ride takes that mission onto the road—literally—so that the journey to bring water becomes visible, shared and compelling.

What it takes to ride 450 km

Cycling from Mecca to Medina across desert terrain in 24 hours is no small feat. Here’s what goes into making it possible—and why your support is essential:

  • A specialist endurance bike built for desert conditions.

  • Tents and resting gear for mid-challenge recovery.

  • High energy food, hydration supplies and careful nutrition.

  • A dedicated medical support team for safety and emergencies.

  • A support vehicle carrying backup gear, spares, navigation and communications equipment.

Because every part of the ride is logistical and costly. Your contribution ensures the cycle becomes an unstoppable mission of mercy rather than just an adventure.

What your support provides

With every donation, you’re directly funding critical water-interventions:

  • Water Packs: For immediate relief when families are displaced, facing conflict or disaster.

  • Hand Pumps: Affordable, effective tools to bring water access to underserved households.

  • Community Wells: Long-term infrastructure for villages—bringing health, community resilience and hope.

  • Storage & Supply Chains: Ensuring water isn’t just available once—but reliably day-after-day.

Whether you give £10, £50, £500—or simply share the campaign—you’re helping turn this 450 km ride into real impact, real lives changed.
