Since 2 March, Gaza has been subjected to bombing and a blockade that has cut off vital supplies in clear violation of international law.
The recent escalation—the deadliest since January—has shattered an already fragile ceasefire. Families were roused in the dead of night as bombs tore through homes and makeshift shelters, with no warning and no regard for civilian safety. The death toll continues to rise and hospitals are overwhelmed, scrambling to treat the wounded amidst critical shortages of medicine, food, water, and fuel.
Al Ianah remains unwavering in our duty to stand with the people of Gaza. For nearly three decades, Al Ianah has been a lifeline to Palestinian communities, delivering emergency aid, health services, education, and sustainable development. Today, our teams are on the ground in all five governorates—North Gaza, Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, and Rafah—responding to urgent needs and preparing to support families as the crisis unfolds.
What’s happening in Gaza right now?
Over 500 days of relentless attacks have displaced 1.9 million people—more than 90 percent of Gaza’s population—often repeatedly, driving them into ever more overcrowded “safe zones.”
The Gaza Strip lies in ruins: more than 52,000 Palestinians killed and at least 119,000 injured, with actual figures likely even higher given the number still missing.
UN agencies warn of catastrophic shortages across the territory: medicine, food, water, fuel, and shelter are all in critically short supply.
Al Ianah’s emergency response
Al Ianah is rapidly scaling up to reach the hardest-hit areas. Working with trusted local partners, Al Ianah teams are:
Delivering ready-to-eat meals: Over 100,000 hot meals cooked and distributed since October 2023, bringing relief to families in makeshift shelters and overcrowded camps.
Supplying essential items: Locally sourcing hygiene kits, bedding, cooking ingredients, and other critical supplies through vetted private trading routes.
Coordinating aid convoys: Facilitating trucks into Gaza via border crossings like Karem Shalom, alongside the World Food Programme and other NGOs, to maximize delivery of food and medical supplies.
How is Al Ianah still getting aid into Gaza?
Our Al Ianah staff in Gaza are using your donations to locally procure ingredients for food preparation, hygiene supplies, bedding, and any other essential items we can source. They rigorously screen and contract local suppliers and partners, who procure either locally or through private trading routes when official crossings are closed.
Border crossings: Al Ianah has successfully facilitated aid trucks entering Gaza through multiple crossings, including Karem Shalom, to alleviate pressure on ground logistics.
Risk management: We conduct thorough risk assessments, maintain communication with stakeholders on all sides, and have contingency plans in place to address security and access challenges at a moment’s notice.
Local partnerships: Working alongside the World Food Programme and trusted community organizations, Al Ianah operates across all five governorates—North Gaza (Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahya, Jabalia), Gaza City, Deir al-Balah (including Zawayda and Al Nusairat), Khan Younis, and Rafah—to ensure aid reaches those most in need every day.
Despite the huge challenges, Al Ianah’s dedicated team and local partners deliver aid daily. So far, we’ve cooked over 100,000 ready-to-eat meals for displaced families in overcrowded shelters.
